Graffiti Removal Colab
Jul 14th, 2009 by trevoraw
The Sellwood/Moreland Crime Committee is starting to generate a group of volunteers to remove the graffiti around our neighborhood. This colaboration not only will serve our local businesses and residents, but it will be a great way to empower our community, bring people together, and have a great time doing so. Stay tuned for the date of our first meeting!
Why should I be concerned about graffiti?
Graffiti is a serious crime that impacts all members of our community. When the city has to remove graffiti and repair the damage it causes, that costs our community tax dollars, which can surely be spent in more productive ways. Properties can be devalued and business owners can lose customers from the negative image that graffiti generates. Moreover, the presence of graffiti here in Sellwood/Moreland sends the message that our community is in decline or over-ridden with crime.
How can I report graffiti?
You can help reduce graffiti by immediately reporting all graffiti sightings. The faster graffiti is cleaned up, the less it appears. Take a picture of the graffiti with your cell phone, digital camera, ect. and send it to the crime committee via the contact page, or simply shoot an email to graffiti [at] sellwood [dot] org. Be sure to include the intersection or adress where you found the graffiti. If the graffiti isn’t in our neighborhood, call the graffiti hotline at 503-823-4824.
What if I see someone committing graffiti vandalism?
While most graffiti is done by teens and young adults, graffiti vandalism is not just a harmless prank. Graffiti vandals are at increased risk of becoming involved in other criminal activity and ultimately can control the culture of our neighborhood. If you witness an act of graffiti vandalism in progress, call the Portland Police at 503-823-3333.
What else can I do to help fight graffiti?
Join the Sellwood Crime Committee in our first meeting, and let’s remove some graffiti together! Date of the first meeting will be posted soon…
